Copyright and Use Information
This site is copyrighted by the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. It is intended for the personal use of students, scholars, and the public.
The archival items reproduced here come from the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society and are used with the society’s permission. Permission for all but personal use of these materials by others requires written application to the Wisconsin Historical Society.
The nature of historical archival collections means that copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult to determine. Whenever possible, the Wisconsin Historical Society provides information about copyright owners and other restrictions in the catalog records, finding aids, and donor records. The society provides such information as a service to aid patrons in determining the appropriate use of an item, but the legal determination ultimately rests with the patron.
How our filenames work on this website
We have embedded the Nelson Collection box and folder numbers in the file names used in the website. You can assist the WHS archivits by citing this information and filename alphanumerics.
- For instance, if you wanted permission or a hardcopy of the document featured on this page: coalition-revgavin.php then you should click on the "Download the Nelson Collection document as a pdf" icon.
The file name that downloads would be: nelson_2-29_rev_gavin_ED_letter.pdf. That number refers to Nelson Collection mss1020, Box 2 - Folder 29. - Images from the Nelson photograph archives have filenames that contain "ph3764."
- Some documents come not from the greater Nelson Papers collection, but rather from Nelson's governor's papers. Those gubernatorial papers start with "s20" Series 20 in the WHS archives.
